The length of time it takes to place a foster dachshund in a forever home can range from as little as a few days to months. How long would be you be able to foster a rescued dachshund?

Dachshunds are very prone to back problems and often suffer from IVDD which may require surgery that can cost as much as $4,000 and result in months of physical rehabilitation, with no guarantee that your dog will not suffer any degree of permanent paralysis. If your dog would have back problems and require surgery, what would you do??
Placement Perimiter
Although DRSF adopts mainly in the South Florida Area, occasionally we receive and process applications for other parts of the state. Our primary goal is to find the best home for each dog and thus, we do adopt out of the local area. We understand and value the input that foster homes bring to the rescue process, but unfortunately we are not in a position to deny an applicant or a good home based on a foster's desire for a dog to remain “local”.

If a foster feels that they cannot let the dog go out of the local area (Broward, Dade, and West Palm), they are welcome to adopt the dog, but may not force the board to decline an applicant interested in a specific dog based on their proximity.

Hold Harmless Agreement
1) I understand that Dachshund Rescue South Florida, Inc. (DRSF) is a regional volunteer non-profit organization devoted to rescuing dachshunds and dachshund mixes in need. Because of my intention to aid DRSF in its charitable pursuits, I agree to hold DRSF, and/or representatives thereof, free and harmless from any loss, damages, injury or death or any person, animal or property caused by the DRSF dachshund(s) in my custody.

2) I am aware that the DRSF dachshund(s) may have undetected illnesses. Further I realize DRSF is responsible only for the medical care of the DRSF dog(s) and that I, alone, am responsible for any actions taken by the DRSF dog(s), once placed in my custody and under my care.

3) I understand that the veterinarian, DRSF, or representatives thereof, take no responsibility as to the character nor disposition of the DRSF dog(s) placed in my custody.

4) I will contact my DRSF representative immediately should the DRSF foster dog(s) become lost, stolen, seriously ill, die and/or bite in an aggressive manner. "Contact" shall mean verbal communication between me and my DRSF representative and/or a board member thereof, either by telephone or in person.

5) The foster dog shall wear an ID tag at all times.

6) I understand that should I decide to permanently adopt a DRSF foster dog in my care, I will pay DRSF the adoption fee, posted on the www.dachshundrescuesouthflorida.com website at the time of my request, to help defray the costs of spaying/neutering, immunizations, heartworm treatment or testing, and any other medical expenses incurred by DRSF.

7) I understand that all foster dogs in my care shall remain the property of DRSF.

By signature below, I certify that I am at least 21 years of age and assume full responsibility for the care and well-being of any dog that I provide foster care to on behalf of DRSF. Any misrepresentation of the true facts in this foster home application will invalidate my foster home agreement with DRSF and will give DRSF the right to immediately reclaim any and all DRSF foster dogs in my care. *
